Cleator Moor U12 3 – 0 Carlisle City U12
The U12s travelled to Cleator Moor this weekend for a County Cup semi final with 3 key players missing due to sickness and injury.
In what turned out to be a fantastic semi final where both teams played with full commitment and pace, Cleator ran out 3 nil winners.
Cleator started brightly and had City on the back foot from kick off and should have scored after a minute but poor finishing let them down. After 7 minutes Cleator swung in a corner with everyone missing it, this left the right winger alone to strike sweetly into the bottom corner. Cleator continued to dominate for the next 10 minutes pressing City back, with good quick passing from midfield to the wings. After 20 minutes they were awarded a penalty which was very dubious, but was calmly slotted home.
This gave City the nudge they needed and from the kick off the started to apply the pressure in the Cleator penalty box, with the Cleator goalkeeper making a string of saves. After 28 minutes a free kick was awarded to City 22 yards out and Jake Holden's sweetly struck shot smashed against the crossbar and the rebound was headed over the crossbar with Nathan Armstrong about to pounce.
The second half carried on in the same manner with City pressing for a goal when they were caught on the break and a 20 yard strike could only be parried and the Cleator striker mopped up.
The game then fizzled out and became very niggly but City performed very well with some good performances especially the City midfield who worked tirelessly on a very heavy pitch.

League Cup Quarter Final
City U12 v Eden vale Hawks – Sat 21st March 2009 Sheep mount
Carlisle City found themselves again playing in the cup this week, albeit the League Cup against a much improved Eden vale side.
City started the brighter and went close early on with a Niall Keyes effort. They didn’t have to wait long however for the breakthrough as after 8 minutes a clever ball from James Andrews split the Eden vale defence for Tyla Steele to race through and slot home.
Eden vale then began to show some form and were quick and strong in the tackle and for fifteen minutes put City under pressure. It was no more than they deserved when they scored an equaliser after 25 minutes to leave honours even at half time.
In the second half City brought on Jake Holden and this made a big difference as he allowed the city midfield to attack and link up with Man of the match Tyla Steele who caused Eden vale problems all game.
After 10 minutes of the second half Steele took the ball on the left side of the penalty area before beating two men and curling a shot into the corner of the Eden vale net.
City continued to press with James Andrews and Bryce Norman surging through the middle, then with 5 minutes to go a long ball by Ben Campbell was chested down on the edge of the Hawks box by Steele, who rolled the ball into the path of Jake Holden who scored with a 20 yard strike.
City won the game 3 –1 but congratulations must go to the Hawks for a good game of football.

SATURDAY 7th MARCH 2009
Whitehaven Miners Social Juniors 0 – 2 Carlisle City U12
Carlisle City u12 marched into the quarter- final of the county cup this weekend with a fine performance over Whitehaven.
In a tight encounter City continued to dominate the game with fantastic wing play from Nathan Armstrong and James Andrews, causing the Whitehaven defence all sorts of problems.
City’s excellent midfield which also included Bryce Norman and man of the match Jake Holden dominated from start to finish, with City twice putting the ball in the net but to be found off side.
The second half was more of the same but it wasn’t until 10 minutes from the end when City’s pressure finally told. A great ball into the box from Armstrong was met by Tyla Steele who managed to shoot through a crowded penalty area to make it 1-0. Within 5 minutes it was 2-0 as Nathan Armstrong made a great attacking run down the left and cut in, to shoot and score from a tight angle.
This was a very good performance by the U12’s with everyone deserving of praise.
The Q Final will be played at home to Windscale on Saturday 14th March 10:30 kick off.
