UNDER 16s IN CUP CONTROVERSY

City's under 16s were unluckily beaten in extra-time yesterday, in the semi-final of the League Cup. With the prize of a Brunton Park final in sight, City were drawing 1-1 with Warwick Wanderers at full-time. During the extra-time period, referee Les Norden punished the City keeper for holding on to the ball for too long, a rule not often enforced these days. From the free-kick, Warwick scored and they now move into the final.

CITY WELL BEATEN BY NETHERHALL

In the ISS Peter Daswon Benevolent trophy on Saturday, City were beaten 5-0 by Netherhall at the Sheepmount. In league games, there was one surprise as Windsccale Reserves gained only their second win of the season, as they beat title-chasing South Workington 3-2. The league table is here.

RE-WRITING THE HISTORY BOOKS

We have been contacted by Roger Hopkin, who is researching the history of the Northern Alliance league. Season 1987/8 is causing a problem, as City do not appear in the records anywhere. An existing website shows City finishing bottom in 1986/7, and then spending four seasons in Division 1 from 1988 to 1992, before being promoted back to the Premier division. Speaking to some club officials on Saturday, they were adamant that this is incorrect as City only spent one season in Division 1. If anyone can clarify further, please let us know.

Roger's website can be seen here.

Second-placed Walker Central drew 2-2 at third-placed Killingworth, amidst a day of numerous draws. Heddon finished 4-4 with Seaton Delaval whilst Stocksfield drew 1-1 with Cramlington Town. The only other side to gain three points were Shankhouse, who beat Newcastle University 3-1. The league table is here.

HELP FOR LITTLE JASMINE

At the recent Speakers' Evening, City agreed to join with Upperby Institute and raise funds for Ward 16 of the Newcastle Royal Victoria Infirmary. The hospital has been caring for little Jasmine Rose O'Neill, pictured above, who was born in July last year and is battling with leukaemia.

During the Speakers' evening, collection buckets were taken around the room, and an auction of football items was held. A total of £537 was raised, and the photograph shows Institute secretary Les Armstrong and City secretary John Lucock presenting the cheque to Jasmine's grandmother, Kathleen Lennon.

CUP ACTION AT LAST?

City and Harraby Catholic Club will try for the fourth time tomorrow to play their 2nd round tie in the Kicks Leisure Challenge cup. The game was originally scheduled for 16th January and then on two further dates in February. The two sides have already met twice in the league this season, with one win each. The winners of tomorrow's tie are away at Shankhouse in the next round.

REPEAT OF LAST SEASON'S FINAL

City meet Netherhall tomorrow in the ISS Peter Dawson Benevolent trophy, which will be a repeat of last season's final, that was won 4-1 by Netherhall. The game kicks off at 2.00 at the Sheepmount and it will be a tough task for City, against a side beaten only once in the league so far this season.
