FRIENDLY ACTION YESTERDAY

City beat Carnwath AFC 6-1 yesterday in a pre-season friendly at the Sheepmount. The goals were scored by Yallop, Hartley (2), Mather, S. Bell & Major. A match report from the game is here and photos will follow later.

In the day's earlier game, City drew 2-2 with Carlisle Amateurs, who equalised with the last kick of the game. City went ahead on the stroke of half-time when Ben Henderson, pictured below, fired a fine 30-yard shot past the keeper. Olly Driver added a second shortly after the break but Amateurs soon pulled one back, following a corner.

MESSAGEBOARD HITS NEW HIGH

City's message board received 16,109 views in July, beating the previous best recorded in July 2009. However, there were still only 204 comments made in the month.

The board can be viewed here and registration is not necessary to post.

FINE EVENING'S ENTERTAINMENT

City enjoyed a superb evening last night in the company of guest speaker Steve Daley, pictured, and comedian Mick Munroe. Steve has won awards as a football speaker, and it was easy to see why as he abandoned his malfunctioning microphone and walked amongst the audience to do his act.

Mick, who is good friends with fellow comic Roy "Chubby" Brown, also kept the audience laughing with his quickfire act.

Many thanks also to compere Howard Nicholson, and to Andy Walker for putting the night together over the last few months.

SPEAKERS' EVENING WITH STEVE DALEY

This evening, in Upperby Institute Social club, Steve Daley is guest speaker along with comedian Mick Munroe. Steve became the second million-pound footballer, when he joined Manchester City from Wolves in September 1979. This was just seven months after Trevor Francis had moved from Birmingham to Notts Forest to become the first million-pound man in football.

Steve is a renowned speaker and was voted "Football speaker of the year" in March 2009. Tickets, priced at £20, are still available.

MORE LONGHORN LEAGUE CUP DRAWS

In the under 9s League Cup, City's under 9s A will travel to Newlaithes in round 1. If they win this game, they are at home to Dalston JBR A in round 2. City's under 9s are at home to Warwick Wanderers in round 2. These games must be played before 20th September.

In the under 10s Cup, City Blues will be at home to either Northbank or Pirelli in round 2 (Pirelli are a Carlisle City youth side from last season). City's under 10s are away at Dalston JBR.

In the under 11s cup, City are at home to Carlisle Spartans.

SATURDAY'S FRIENDLIES

City's County League side will now meet Carlisle Amateurs on Saturday at the Sheepmount with an earlier kick-off of 1.00. This is due to the Sheepmount still only having one senior pitch available for this weekend. At 2.30, City will meet Carnwath AFC, from Lanarkshire.

After the game, refreshments will be provided in the Royal Scot, as the normal venue of the Howard Arms is closed for a refurbishment.

COUNTY LEAGUE FIXTURES

The early fixtures for the County League have now been released. City will begin their season on 7th August with a trip to league newcomers Borough of Workington. This is followed by a home game on 11th August against Warwick Wanderers, also a new side in the league this season. The full list of early fixtures is here.

NEW DISCIPLINARY RULES FOR ALLIANCE SENDING-OFFS

City, as members of the Northern Alliance, are now subject to the new disciplinary rules concerning suspensions of players. If players are dismissed during a game, they will be subject to a match-based suspension, and will not be able to play football at any level until that suspension is served. We also understand that players who are sent off can now only appeal if they can supply video evidence. This is clearly going to be extremely difficult at this level of football.

Still on a disciplinary note, the administration fee for bookings this season is increasing from £8 to £10.

EARLY LONGHORN CUP DRAWS

Some draws have now been made for the early rounds of the Longhorn League cups. In the under 12s, City Blues meet Abbeytown at the Sheepmount on 9th September (ko 6.30). On the same evening, City's under 16s meet Northbank 1970. On 8th September, City's under 14s meet Warwick Wanderers (also 6.30 ko).
